Wellington Combined Taxis Ltd (WCT) is a shareholder owned and operated company which was formed in 1993 with the amalgamation of the then two separately operated taxi companies -Wellington Taxis Coop Society and Black White & Grey Taxis.

WCT currently operates 442 Business Class vehicles combined with 600 uniformed drivers.It also successfully services over 4,800 business accounts and has done so for many years.WCT taxis accept all major credit cards, vouchers, TaxiCharge cards and Total Mobility cards and have POS terminals installed to facilitate speedy and secure processing.

Wellington Combined Taxis provide a range of additional services that an average taxi company offers. These services include;
  • Dedicated Ranks which are located at New World City and New World Thorndon, Te Papa, James Cook Hotel, The Duxton Hotel, Westpac Stadium and the second lane of taxis undercover at Wellington Airport.
  • A wake up call service to passengers who have pre-booked a taxi.
  • Advise ArrivalsAn additional service offered for customers who have booked a taxi and wish to be advised when the taxi is outside their address.
  • Urgent parcel and food delivery service is offered for immediate parcel deliveries if you want to bypass the courier option. Wellington Combined can provide instant pick ups and deliveries to save on time especially for urgent documents or a spare set of keys.


Strategy


Wellington Combined Taxis has gone through Landcare Research to become a carboNZero Cert TM certified taxi service.

Wellington Combined Taxis Limited meets the requirements of the carboNZeroCertTM certification having measured and committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and mitigated its remaining unavoidable emissions in respect of its organisation including taxi vehicle fleet, office administration, staff air travel.

Wellington Combined Taxi’s total emissions for the three month period measured were 1680 tonnes carbon dioxide equivalents (tCO2e) comprising 1668.58 tCO2e Scope 1, 7.08 tCO2e Scope 2 and 4.05 tCO2e Scope 3 emissions. The extrapolated total emissions for the base year are 6720 tCO2e. These emissions were offset through carboNZero programme by investing in VERs2 from PRE3 Tararua II windpower project.

Wellington Combined Taxis have a commitment to sustainable business practice. This includes the introduction of hybrid vehicles to the fleet since June 2007. Wellington Combined Taxis are also presently considering committing to a rule whereby no petrol only vehicles will be allowed to enter the fleet after June 2008. The majority of the Company’s current and future vehicles are evaluated against rigid fuel efficiency guidelines. The taxi fleet is comprised of a range of cars, vans, and shuttles. It has also recently purchased Co-op Shuttles as part of its strategy to be Wellington's “Total Transport Solution”.

Wellington Combined Taxis has also developed a GHG emissions reduction plan. Some projects in this plan include:
  • Undertaking a vehicle fleet check through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA)
  • Maintaining a vehicle requirement rule to ensure low emissions intensity vehicles are entering the fleet.
  • Providing fuel efficient driving practices information and/or training for all drivers.
